About Me

Hey everyone — I’m Alexis "Lex" Stackhouse.

I'm a new graduate who recently earned my MA in Media Production ('22) and MBA ('23) from Toronto Metropolitan University.

I brand myself as a global thinker because my interests are rooted in exploring the world around me. I speak English, Spanish, and French; I'm currently learning Mandarin Chinese; and my ultimate goal is to become a polyglot (5+ languages). I can identify any country on a map along with its capital city and flag — quiz me! One of my most deep-seated passions, however, is using the lens of horror and its sub-genres (e.g. thriller, suspense, etc.) to dissect sociological, anthropological, and psychological topics — visit my Research page to learn more!

My areas of practice include screenwriting, copywriting, directing, creative production, and development, but I've dabbled in a bit of everything. You can check out my Resume for a clearer picture, but here are a couple highlights: I assisted with creative development and talent acquisition for NBA All-Star Weekend and the Apollo Theater's annual Spring Benefit in 2020, and I worked in PopSugar's editorial department the following year. Some of my most-circulated original pieces on the PopSugar platform include "My Dad Played in the NBA Throughout My Childhood, and It Shaped How I Grew Up" and "Critics Are Still Coming for 'WAP' Left and Right, but Don't Worry — I Have Rebuttals."

Using tools garnered from my background in theatre and film, I wrote, directed, and produced an internationally-circulated thriller short in 2020 called "House Blend," which you can view on my Portfolio page along with my other visual projects.

During my MBA program, I served as Vice President of the university’s Black Business Graduate Students Association where I hold an advisory position to this day. I currently work as a Media Specialist at Bell Media by way of their Graduate Leadership Program. I'm also actively developing a startup that utilizes immersive media technology (i.e.,VR, AR) to build global communities.

Overall, my day-to-day affairs are based around cultivating opportunities that'll allow me to make a diversity-centered impact on the Canadian and global media landscapes.
